Hi, Team
I'm looking to use the UM982 module in the mini PCIe form factor in an application I have. I'm looking to understand if the signaling brought out to the miniPCIe connector can support not only the standard communications with the UM982 chipset to set and get GPS data products, but also support FW updates and other diagnostic monitoring. My understanding is that there are 3 UART comm ports available on the UM982 chip, but that only a single UART is brought out over a USB interface to the miniPCIe connector.

My specific questions are the following:
1. Which um982 COM port is brought out to the USB connection on the miniPCIe card interface?
2. Does that COM port interface allow for FW updates if any become available from unicore? Is there any functionality that is not available through this COM port?
3. Are the other um982 UART ports routed on the PCB or are the signals just left stranded at the solder pads?

thanks,

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your inquiry

1. COM1
2. Yes, COM1 is default port for FW updates
3. No, other UART ports not routed on the MPCI board, as they can not be connected to the MPCI bus. We have several other products on UM982 module with all ports routed in different form factors.
